ACU Primary Education Bachelor: Standard Placements and Major Restrictions
Understand ACU’s primary teaching degree, supervised professional experience and the international-eligibility restriction affecting its Special Education major.

Primary teaching involves helping a class develop across a broad curriculum. ACU’s teaching workshop describes this pathway through a class community and strong learning foundations, rather than the subject-specialist emphasis of secondary teaching.
For applicants interested in that breadth, the Bachelor of Education (Primary) is a distinct undergraduate option. ACU includes it in its 2027 workshop course list. The 2027 handbook describes a standard four-year, 320-credit-point degree. ACU Primary course handbook
Look beyond a favourite school subject
A useful starting question is whether you want to support learning across several curriculum areas. Enjoying one subject can be a strength, but the workshop’s description of primary teaching places that interest within a broader teaching role.
The teaching preparation outlined by ACU combines curriculum, pedagogy, assessment, inclusion and professional experience. In practical terms, the course choice concerns both what pupils learn and how a teacher plans, explains and responds to their learning.
As a personal reflection, consider whether you would enjoy explaining an idea in different ways and working with a class whose learning needs vary. This is a suggested way to think about course fit, not an admission test or a promise about a particular classroom assignment.
Understand what professional experience is for
ACU’s workshop describes supervised professional experience as observing, co-teaching and leading learning, with feedback from qualified supervising teachers. It also connects practice with evidence-informed planning, assessment and inclusion.
That description gives applicants more useful information than treating placement as a number of days to complete. The aim is to connect academic preparation with teaching activity and feedback. It does not establish a fixed week-by-week sequence or guarantee a placement at a chosen school.
The standard course’s professional-experience components total 80 days:
| Unit | Days |
|---|---|
| EDET100 | 15 |
| EDET201 | 20 |
| EDET301 | 20 |
| EDET402 | 25 |
These figures match the ordinary Part A course plan in the 2027 handbook and ACU’s Primary course page. They do not include an additional Special Education placement or establish your own school allocation and dates. Handbook unit requirements, Primary course professional experience
Before organising work or travel, request the schedule for your exact course plan. The Primary teaching master and the Early Childhood and Primary bachelor have different requirements.
Distinguish the major’s structure from eligibility to take it
The Primary handbook includes an alternative course structure with an 80-credit-point Special Education major. The major sits within the degree; it is not a separate bachelor's award. 2027 Primary course structure
For international applicants, the 2027 Special Education major handbook explicitly states that the major is not available. A general course structure or major description does not establish an exception to that restriction. Obtain course-specific clarification if information you receive appears different. This restriction concerns the named major, not every education degree or inclusion-related unit.
There is also a placement discrepancy: the Primary course page describes an extra 20 days for EDET202, while the 2027 major page and major handbook list 30. The combined total for the major needs clarification. The ordinary course’s 80-day table above should not be presented as the total for that alternative structure.
Check the course and professional requirements separately
For an international application, confirm the available campus, intake, academic prerequisites and English requirements for the exact course. A general campus list or another teaching degree’s entry information is not enough. No admission score should be inferred from the four-year duration.
The 2027 Primary handbook explicitly excludes international intakes at Ballarat, Blacktown, Brisbane, Canberra and North Sydney. Its remaining locations still require confirmation for your intended commencement. Handbook location notes
The workshop also distinguishes university-entry English requirements from teacher-registration English requirements. For school-teaching pathways, it highlights LANTITE, professional experience and child-safety clearances. Successful course completion and the applicable registration process remain separate steps; neither admission nor graduation guarantees employment or registration.
