ACU's Master of Social Work (Qualifying) is an Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) accredited qualification. Its 2026 Shantou workshop also says graduates are eligible to apply for AASW membership. Accreditation describes the course; membership involves an individual application. Enrolling in the course should not be described as already becoming an AASW member.

For an applicant comparing qualifications, the useful task is to check the exact award, understand the graduate membership category and keep evidence of completion available for the later application.

Check the named qualification

Slide 5 describes the qualifying master's as meeting the Australian Social Work Education and Accreditation Standards (ASWEAS) and as an entry qualification into the profession. Those statements concern that named program, not every ACU degree with social science content.

The AASW accredited-program list, checked on 17 October 2026, includes ACU's Master of Social Work (Qualifying). Match the complete qualification name when using it for a course comparison.

The list explains that dates beside programs indicate when a program commenced. Do not mistake such a date for your own intake date. For current delivery locations and modes, use the university's course information: an accreditation listing and an available place to study answer different questions.

Identify the membership category and evidence

AASW's graduate membership page, checked on 17 October 2026, says this category is available when a person joins or renews during the two-year period after graduating from their first qualifying social work degree.

Its application guidance directs applicants to create a MyAASW account and lists completion-evidence options, including a certified degree copy, official transcript, university completion letter or a My eQuals link. Check the current instructions for the evidence appropriate to your application; this is not a requirement to obtain every item listed.

The workshop's eligibility statement does not provide a membership fee, processing time or promise that an application will be approved. Confirm the applicable category and current terms with AASW before relying on a particular cost or timeframe.

Keep admission, completion and professional decisions separate

Prior-study assessment determines whether your academic background meets the course's entry conditions. The ACU prior-study evidence guide concerns that earlier decision. It does not establish that you have completed the qualifying degree or already meet a graduate membership category.

Likewise, a membership application, an employer's recruitment decision, any jurisdiction-specific registration requirement and a migration skills assessment are separate matters. The workshop's accreditation and eligibility wording does not decide the outcome of those processes.

For planning, retain a simple record of the exact award, the accreditation reference, your completion evidence and the membership category you need to check. That makes the qualification's professional significance clear without turning it into an automatic membership, job or migration outcome.
