ACU nursing honours in 2027: entry requirements and the 30/50 credit-point split
Read ACU’s 2027 nursing honours entry requirements and its 80-credit-point structure: 30 coursework and 50 thesis, with alternative full-time and part-time thesis patterns.

Australian Catholic University’s Bachelor of Nursing (Honours) has its own entry requirements and research structure. For 2027, the dedicated course information and handbook specify a nursing bachelor’s degree and a minimum GPA of 5.0 on the ACU seven-point scale. Meeting that academic threshold makes someone eligible to apply; it is not an unconditional admission offer.
The broader further-study guide compares research, clinical development and other health fields. Here the question is more specific: what does this honours course require, and how should its credit-point map be read?
Start with the honours-specific entry requirements
The 2027 honours handbook names a completed Bachelor of Nursing and the 5.0 minimum GPA. It also requires compliance with ACU’s admissions policy, including the English-language requirements for international applicants.
An interest in healthcare does not replace the named prior qualification. Nor should a student convert a percentage from another grading system directly into an ACU GPA without an assessment of the academic record. This article does not establish an equivalence formula for overseas results.
ACU’s international honours course page describes a supervised research thesis and explicitly says the degree does not lead to nurse registration. It is therefore a different selection question from finding an initial nursing qualification.
The 80 credit points divide into 30 and 50
The handbook specifies a minimum of one year full-time, or the part-time equivalent, and a total of 80 credit points:
- 30 credit points of coursework, supporting the research component.
- 50 credit points of thesis units, with progress monitored by the research supervisor.
The split helps explain why honours involves more than adding another year of clinical subjects. It also provides a useful check when reading the course map: the units must add to the award’s total rather than to a new total created by counting every displayed option.
In the full-time map, NRSG412 contributes 10 thesis credit points and NRSG413 contributes 40. NRSG413 continues across two ACU terms; its repeated appearance is not a second 40-credit-point unit. The part-time thesis alternative uses NRSG412 with two 20-credit-point units, NRSG414 and NRSG415. Those are alternative patterns, not additional requirements to add to the full-time pattern.
Use the map to plan the actual offering
Research-method coursework and thesis supervision serve different purposes within the same award. Online labels on some coursework units do not, by themselves, establish that the whole degree can be completed offshore or that any campus and study pattern will suit an individual applicant.
Before relying on a plan, match the intended year and offering with the course rules and enrolment guide. Keep the entry assessment separate from arrangements for a research topic and supervision. The sources used here do not promise a supervisor for every proposed topic or require a particular proposal format from every applicant.
The workshop lists honours and doctoral study as further-study directions. That does not establish automatic doctoral admission or a scholarship entitlement. The immediate decision is whether this specific research course fits your goals and whether its entry and study arrangements fit your circumstances.
