The full course name matters here: Bachelor of Education (Secondary)/Bachelor of Arts (Design Innovation and Technologies). ACU lists it as a separate double degree in its teaching workshop, alongside the general Secondary Education/Arts and Secondary Education/Exercise Science combinations.

This pathway connects design and technology disciplinary study with preparation for secondary technologies teaching. It should be investigated as a teacher-education course, rather than assumed to be a general engineering qualification or a course aimed solely at product-design employment. Start with the intended teaching field

The course information describes preparation for secondary technologies, or TAS, teaching. For an applicant interested in design, the relevant question is therefore whether you want to use that disciplinary interest in a school-teaching role.

As a personal reflection, consider both the subject and the learners: does helping adolescents understand design and technology appeal to you as much as studying the field yourself? This is general decision-making advice, not an additional ACU entry requirement.

When making an enquiry, use the full degree title and ask which teaching areas its course plan supports. A broad reference to Technologies in the workshop does not establish that every technology subject or every subject combination can be selected.

Four years in an accelerated full-time structure

For 2027, ACU describes the course as four years in accelerated full-time mode, or an equivalent part-time duration, with 360 credit points. Keep the duration and study-mode wording together: “accelerated” should not be converted into an unsupported shorter completion time.

The 360-credit-point total also distinguishes this course from the 320-credit-point structures of some other ACU teaching double degrees. Do not copy another degree’s component split or semester plan simply because both include Bachelor of Education (Secondary).

The 2027 handbook allocates 200 credit points to the Education component and 160 to Design and Technologies study with a Digital Technologies (Computing) minor. That 160 comprises 80 points of specified design/technology units, 40 of extension electives and 40 for the computing minor. The split differs from the general Arts double degree. 2027 course structure

The headline duration does not explain the precise teaching periods, unit sequence or weekly workload. Check the applicable course map and calendar before planning employment or travel around the degree. The equivalent part-time description likewise does not by itself establish an international applicant’s enrolment options.

Strathfield is the named campus

The 2027 handbook lists Strathfield as the approved location. The broader campus choices shown for other Secondary Education double degrees should not be transferred to this course. 2027 handbook location

Confirm your student category, intake and entry requirements against that exact course. A general university campus map or a generic Arts course page does not establish that this qualification is available elsewhere.

Plan for professional experience, not just disciplinary study

The course page specifies 80 days of professional experience: EDET100 has 15 days, EDET201 has 20, EDET301 has 20 and EDET402 has 25. These requirements do not establish your own dates or school allocation. Course professional experience

Ask for those practical arrangements before making commitments that depend on a particular timetable. Do not assume that a Special Education major or its additional placement requirements can be imported from a different Bachelor of Education.

The handbook requires a LANTITE attempt before EDET100 and completion of the literacy and numeracy units before EDET301. Follow the applicable enrolment guide and adviser’s directions when planning those stages. Handbook progression requirements

Admission, successful completion of the double degree and teacher registration remain separate matters. For someone drawn to design and technology, the central choice is whether the secondary-teaching purpose, Strathfield location and stated study structure fit their aims. The course title alone does not promise a teaching appointment, professional engineering status or a particular design career.
