ACU Master of Teaching: Early Childhood and Primary in 2027
Check ACU’s dual-sector graduate-entry teaching course: prior-degree requirements, 70 days across four age groups, and completion and registration checks.

ACU’s Master of Teaching (Early Childhood and Primary) prepares graduates for work across early-childhood and primary education. It is a two-year graduate-entry option in ACU’s teaching workshop, alongside separate Primary and Secondary degrees. The important choice is whether you want to teach across both sectors and whether your previous degree meets this course’s requirements.
The international course page identifies 2027 entry, Melbourne and Strathfield locations, and 160 credit points. Its standard duration is two years full-time or equivalent part-time. Confirm the arrangement in your own offer before planning around that duration. ACU international course information
Match your previous degree to primary curriculum areas
The 2027 handbook requires a completed bachelor’s degree or equivalent containing the equivalent of one full-time year of subject study in one or more primary-school curriculum areas. It also specifies a Victorian suitability assessment and additional NSW mathematics prerequisites. Read the relevant state conditions for your intended location. 2027 course handbook: admission requirements
For an enquiry, prepare your transcript and subject descriptions so ACU can assess the content you have studied. A degree title alone may not show that content. This is practical preparation for an assessment, rather than a prediction that a particular degree will qualify.
ACU’s workshop stresses that prior study matters for graduate entry. Assess this named course separately from Secondary teaching, where the intended teaching subjects create a different question.
Understand what the dual-sector title adds
The workshop describes early-childhood teaching through development, play, relationships and family partnerships. Primary teaching brings a broad curriculum and a class community. This combined pathway therefore deserves consideration if both kinds of work interest you.
The workshop presents Master of Education as further study for education professionals, without initial teaching qualification status. For someone changing careers into teaching, the named Master of Teaching is the relevant starting comparison. A broader age range is useful only if it fits the work you want to do.
Plan for 70 days across four age groups
ACU specifies 70 days of professional experience and full-time availability during placements. The 2027 handbook’s unit schedule gives this breakdown:
| Unit | Age group or setting | Days |
|---|---|---|
| EDES560 | Birth to 35 months | 10 |
| EDET561 | Ages 3–5 | 20 |
| EDET689 | Ages 5–8 | 15 |
| EDET691 | School setting, ages 8–12 | 25 |
These total 70 days. Unit requirements establish the learning settings; they do not give you an individual placement address or confirmed calendar. ACU says its faculty arranges suitable placements and that scheduled periods can vary. Obtain your applicable schedule before committing to other work or travel. Keep completion and registration checks separate
ACU’s course page reports Victorian Institute of Teaching accreditation and listing with AITSL and ACECQA. It requires successful LANTITE completion and appropriate approvals before classroom entry. Those are course requirements; personal registration still needs its own assessment. ACU course requirements and recognition
The workshop also distinguishes university-entry English from registration English. Keep three questions in your planning: can you enter this course, can you meet its study and placement requirements, and what will your intended registration authority require? An offer answers only the first stage.
