ACU graduate-entry midwifery: the 2026 nursing entry requirements
ACU’s 2026 graduate-entry midwifery pathway requires more than a nursing degree: understand the GPA, Ahpra registration, clinical experience and course structure.

A nursing degree alone does not meet all the requirements for Australian Catholic University’s Bachelor of Midwifery (Graduate Entry). The nursing pathway in the 2026 handbook also requires a minimum GPA of 4.0 out of 7, registered nurse registration with Ahpra, and one year of clinical work after registration.
This matters for a student planning further study immediately after a nursing bachelor’s degree. Completing the academic qualification and gaining the required post-registration experience are separate steps. Time spent on undergraduate clinical placement should not be assumed to satisfy a requirement explicitly described as post-registration work.
Read the nursing entry requirements together
For the 2026 pathway described here, the requirements are:
- A Bachelor of Nursing.
- A GPA of at least 4.0 on a seven-point scale.
- Ahpra registered nurse registration.
- One year of post-registration clinical work.
These are not alternatives from which an applicant chooses one. A strong academic record does not replace registration or the experience requirement. Equally, employment in a health setting does not by itself establish that the applicant has the specified nursing qualification or post-registration clinical experience.
For someone qualified outside Australia, the registration wording is particularly important. The named requirement is Ahpra registered nurse registration; an overseas nursing qualification or registration should not simply be treated as the same thing.
The handbook also lists a separate paramedicine pathway. This article explains the nursing pathway; it does not suggest that nursing is the only prior profession named in the handbook.
What the 2026 course contains
The handbook describes 150 credit points, with a minimum duration of two years full-time or the equivalent part-time. The credit-point structure comprises:
- 80 credit points of theory.
- 60 credit points of practice.
- 10 credit points of interdisciplinary study.
The practice component is expressed in credit points, not placement hours. Converting 60 credit points into a number of clinical hours would require information not supplied by this breakdown. Likewise, “minimum two years” describes the course duration rather than a guarantee that every student will finish in exactly two years.
Keep the year and availability questions separate
ACU’s 2026 nursing workshop identifies graduate-entry midwifery as a further-study direction. The detailed requirements above come from the 2026 handbook and explain that particular pathway.
They do not establish 2027 campus offerings, international places or availability for study on a student visa. For planning purposes, academic eligibility and availability of a suitable offering are separate questions. The practical value of this pathway description is that it makes the registration and experience requirements visible before a nursing graduate assumes they can move straight into midwifery study.
